Senior Tax Accountant

The Tax Advisor will be responsible for the preparation, filing, and administration of a variety of complex tax returns including, but not limited to, individual income tax returns, corporate income tax returns, partnership tax returns, fiduciary income tax returns, and employment tax returns for accounts administered by The Commerce Trust Company in the Kansas City and Western Community Markets. In addition, the person works closely with Private Banking and Wealth Management Consultants providing highly sophisticated value added tax planning advise for our current and potential clients who are executives, entrepreneurs and other high net worth individuals with complex financial affairs, substantial business interests, large family estates and investment portfolios requiring careful attention. As the local resource for technical tax issues, the Tax Advisor must be knowledgeable in a wide area of taxation and the position requires extensive knowledge of the bank’s internal accounting system and the Federal and State compliance regulations. The proper management of these responsibilities will add to the ability of Commerce Trust to expand its trust/investment management role for current and prospective high net worth clients. Ten or more years experience in the preparation, review and filing of tax returns with focus on fiduciary and individual returns required. Trust, Banking or Investment Management in a fast-paced environment with a focus on accuracy, service and accountability to deliver results, both individually and with a team preferred. Bachelor’s degree in accounting required. Masters degree in accounting is preferred. CPA certification and/or equivalent work experience in fiduciary, estate, or income taxation required. A thorough working knowledge of estate, gift, trust, and generation-skipping transfer tax required. Advanced knowledge of trust services including administration, tax law and investments and capacity to identify problems and recommend solutions in an advice based context required. Excellent analytical, auditing and problem-solving skills required. Excellent communication skills in a team and multi-location environment required.
