Market Yourself Creatively
« on: March 19, 2009, 10:23:55 PM »
There are several factors in today's market that can make or break who is offered a job. Job seekers need to become more proactive and take the fate of their job search into their own hands.

Job seekers are getting creative in their job search methods. To get ahead, some professionals have been relying on more unconventional ways to get noticed.  I wanted to share them with you and see if you have additional thoughts on how to creatively set market your resume.

    * Creating a Customized Online Career Portfolio
       One site that I have found for this is www.visualcv.com.  It appears to be a strong versatile means
       of creating your resume / cv.

    * Producing Video Resumes
       I have not set up Employment Connector to receive video resumes, but plan to do so in the future.
       Additionally, I want to add that if you do use video resumes, ensure that you speak clearly and are
       presenting yourself in a manner as if you were in an interview.

    * Market Yourself Through Networking Boards
       Use these free tools to assist you in Networking as well as job preparation.  Some sites that are
       helpful are LinkedIN.com, Myspace.com, Facebook.com, Twitter.com etc...  Keep in mind that anything
       you post about yourself online, wherever that may be, has a tendency to come back on you.
       Recruiters also search these sites for your profiles when doing background checks.  So that party
       you may have attended and got drunk and danced naked around the campfire may be a disqualifying
       factor in your employment with some companies.

    * Creating a Job Proposal
       This is a possibility.  Create a proposal for a position that may not be available.  Market and sell your
       greatest asset.  YOU.  It is possible that an employer does not know what he/she may need.  If you
       identify a need and market yourself to the employer, there is a good possibility your perseverance
       will pay off and your marketable assets will shine.

    * Performing Their Own Personal Background Checks
       I am not sure how or where to perform your own background checks.  But this makes sense.  This is
       your verifying your credit report to ensure you have no blemishes.  Find a way to verify your
       background information to ensure it is yours and there are no blemishes that may wrongfully
       eliminate you from the selection process.

These are just a few suggestions.  If you have any additional suggestions or comments, please post them here.  I look forward to your responses.
